Juan Carlos Cobo, MD, F.A.C.S.

JUAN CARLOS COBO, MD, F.A.C.S. earned his medical degree at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine in 1979. He completed his general surgery training at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California. Dr. Cobo is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has been in private practice in South Orange County since 1984 and is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of California, Irvine. He is a member of the Orange County Medical Association, the Orange County Surgical Society, the California Medical Association, and the Southern California Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Cobo served as the Orange County Medical Association’s (OCMA) 107th President. He served as an OCMA delegation member to the California Medical Association’s House of Delegates and spent three terms on the Board of Trustees of the California Medical Association. Dr. Cobo served on the Council of Advisors of Blue Shield of California. Dr. Cobo served on the Board of Directors of the Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc. from 1998 to 2006. He was elected Trustee of the Mutual Protection Trust in 2006. He resides in Laguna Niguel, California with his wife, Deborah.

MEARL NAPONIC, MD

MEARL NAPONIC, MD is a board certified obstetrician and gynecologist practicing in La Mesa. He is a 1966 graduate of Temple University School of Medicine and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Naponic is a member of the San Diego County Medical Society and the California Medical Association. He is an assistant clinical professor at the University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine. He has served on the CAP Board of Directors since 1987 and was a member of the Executive Committee of that board until his election to the Board of Trustees in 1990. He also currently serves on MPT's Obstetrical Claims Review Committee and Obstetrical Peer Review Committee. Dr. Naponic lives in San Diego.

ANDREW SEW HOY, MD

ANDREW SEW HOY, MD is a board certified orthopedic surgeon who received his medical education and completed his residency in New Zealand. He had two fellowships in Total Joint Replacement, one at Exeter, United Kingdom, and one at the University of California in Los Angeles. He was a full-time faculty member at the Department of Orthopedics at the University of Southern California. Dr. Sew Hoy has been in private practice since 1983 on the Orthopaedic Hospital campus in downtown Los Angeles. He is a past President of the Medical Staff at Orthopaedic Hospital, and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the California Orthopaedic Association, and the Western Orthopaedic Association. Dr. Sew Hoy has been a member of the MPT Orthopedic Peer Review Committee for more than 15 years, is the current chair of the committee, and is a member of the MPT Physician Closed Claims Review Committee.

CHARLES STEINMANN, MD

CHARLES STEINMANN, MD has been a practicing board certified anesthesiologist since 1977. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1967 and received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco, in 1971. He completed his residency in anesthesiology at the University of California, San Francisco, followed by a fellowship in pain management in Zurich, Switzerland. During his sabbatical in England from 1988 to 1992 he studied for a masters degree in finance and began work on his M. Phil in Finance at the University of Exeter. He is the recipient of the 2001 Award of Excellence from the Southern California Cancer Pain Initiative. He is currently on staff at Hoag Hospital and the Newport Plaza Surgical Center. Elected to the MPT Board of Trustees in 2005, Dr. Steinmann also serves MPT as chair of the Compensation Committee, and member of the Finance & Investment/Audit Committee. Dr. Steinmann lives in Newport Beach.

PHILLIP UNGER, MD

PHILLIP UNGER, MD has been in the private practice of radiology since 1975. He graduated from the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada in 1969. Dr. Unger is board certified and practices in Fullerton. He belongs to the Orange County Medical Association, the California Medical Association, the American Medical Association, and the American College of Radiology and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (Canada). He also served as President of the Orange County Radiological Society in 1984/1985 and became a Fellow of the American College of Radiology in 1996. He has been a Trustee of MPT since 1986 and is also a member of the Orange County Claims Review Committee and the Finance & Investment/Audit Committee. Dr. Unger lives in Fullerton.

GLENN WEISSMAN, MD

GLENN WEISSMAN, MD is a board certified otolaryngologist and head & neck surgeon. He graduated from the Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1976; he did his surgical residency at The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, and specialty training at Boston University in Massachusetts. He is an active member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology and the American Academy of Facial Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery. He is past Chief of Surgery at San Gabriel Valley Medical Center, and present Chief of the Department of Otolaryngology at Methodist Hospital. He serves as medical director for the Specialty Surgical Center in Arcadia. In addition to being a CAP Director, Dr. Weissman serves MPT as a member of the Claims Review Committee, the closed Claims Physician Review Committee and he chairs Surgical Peer Review Committees. He also serves as a co-director of CAP Physicians Insurance Agency, Inc., CAP’s insurance subsidiary. He has appointments at The Methodist Hospital in Arcadia, Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, and The City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte. Dr. Weissman resides in Bradbury.

J. MICHAEL WORMLEY, MD

J. MICHAEL WORMLEY, MD entered family practice in Glendora in 1959. He received his medical degree from the University of Iowa in 1958. He is a member of the Los Angeles County Medical Association and California Medical Association. He is board certified in family practice and is a Fellow of American Academy of Family Physicians. He served as President of the CAP Board of Directors from 1983 through 1985 when he became a member of the MPT Board of Trustees. He has served as chair of the MPT Board of Trustees since 1986. Dr. Wormley spends a significant amount of his time working with MPT while also continuing practice in Glendora where he and his wife reside.
